In continuation of our Foundation Series we look at one of the most fundamental concepts in Christianity, Atonement. Atonement is not a word we use often in regular conversation but it gets to the heart of the issue of sin and how imperfect human beings may be reconciled to a perfect God. Early on God establishes a system for atonement in which blood must be spilled to cover sin. This system was not meant to be permanent, but to point to God entering into the story himself through the person of Jesus Christ, whose death would once and for all pay for humanities’ sins.
