What is baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of the inward change that happens when we become followers of Jesus. Practically, we are immersed in water briefly before coming back up from the water. The immersion symbolizes death to our old life, and dying with Christ, only to be raised up to new life!  "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17

Why should I be baptized? Baptism is a mark of following Jesus. Following Jesus means believing that Jesus came into the world to save us and redeem us through his death, burial and resurrection. "Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" Romans 10:9

Jesus commands all his followers to be baptized and was even baptized himself! (Matthew 28:19, Matthew 3:13-17)

What should I do next? If you are a Christian and you want to be baptized, the best step is to get connected to a church! At Living Hope, we do baptism sign ups during our discipleship class called Growth Track. Sign up here!
